“If people knew better, they’d do better.”

This is actually an important announcement. All good news.

In early March, Natalie and I were asked to review a natural products R&D company out of Sweden called Zinzino. We were impressed by the science, the world-class clinical and research lab, published studies and patent portfolio. What’s more, we loved their research model: find the nutritional intervention that solves the biggest problem for the greatest number of people. Since the fundamental unit of life is the cell, they developed a test to measure cell membrane integrity. After all, there is an astounding amount of molecular “traffic” constantly moving in and out of our cells; thousands of proteins, fuels, enzymes and other signaling molecules. It is estimated that 10,000 water molecules travel through our cell membranes every few seconds. In addition, of course, our cells have to eliminate waste material, and ALL of this traffic has to be managed by the cell membrane… which is composed mostly of fatty acids…derived from the fats and oils that we eat.

You can probably see where I’m going here. The fats that we consume today bear little resemblance to the fats that are needed for cell membrane health. Highly processed foods often contain trans fats that wreak havoc in our cells. What’s more, the ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fats – for most people – is way out of balance, leading to chronic problems at the cell, tissue, gland and organ level. Importantly, most of these adverse changes are silent at first, only to contribute – over time, to the myriad degenerative issues we call “normal” aging. 

Now, Zinzino didn’t stop with a test. They developed a product, Balanced Oil+ to restore cell membrane integrity. Their proof-of-principle research showed that dramatic improvement could be obtained in just 120 days. To date, they have performed more than 1.3 million tests, achieving the restoration of fatty acid balance 95% of the time.

Many of you know that I directed the first FDA-licensed clinical lab specializing in nutrition and immunology; so I know the effect that restored fatty acid balance has on the immune system. But there are equally important benefits for cardiovascular health, joint comfort, range of motion, exercise tolerance, skin, hair and even brain function.
